TomTom makes cars more chatty with the help of Microsoft AI
Navigation experts at TomTom are making cars chattier with the help of Microsoft's Azure OpenAI.
The company will talk about the new experiences during a session at Microsoft's Build conference Wednesday.
Modern cars often do have some form of a voice assistant present, but TomTom is talking about a far smarter, AI-based assistant that can engage the driver in a natural conversation, as well as handle complex driver requests.
Azure OpenAI provides API access to OpenAI's language models such as GPT-4, allowing companies like TomTom to leverage GPT-4's smarts in various scenarios.
The two companies first announced this partnership in Dec. 2023, with a TomTom rep saying the company's vision is to "transform the in-vehicle experience, enabling drivers to ask their car for anything and trust it will deliver."
