Apple's iPhone SE 2 will come in March, analyst claims

Information about Apple's (possibly) upcoming successor to the iPhone SE is trickling out slowly but surely.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors) has a new report on the iPhone SE 2 (which may or may not be its name), claiming the phone will go into mass production in January next year with a launch date in late March.

Earlier this month, Kuo said the SE 2 will be launched in the first quarter of 2020, so the new timing narrows it down to the very end of that range. Note that the iPhone SE was launched in March 2016, and an upgraded version was launched in March 2017.

We already know quite a bit about the device from Kuo's previous notes. The SE 2 will look a lot like the iPhone 8 and likely have a 4.7-inch screen and a home button. It will have an A13 CPU, 3GB of RAM and 64/128GB of storage. Just like Apple's new iPhone 11, it won't have 3D Touch. Kuo previously said the device will come in space gray, silver and red colors.

In a nutshell, it'll be the cheapest, smallest new iPhone you'll be able to buy. In the new note, Kuo implies that the phone might have a single camera, which is reasonable given the alleged $399 starting price.

Currently, the cheapest new iPhone you can get from Apple is the iPhone 8 itself, which starts at $329, but that phone has a two-generations old A11 chip. It's quite possible that Apple will retire this model after launching the iPhone SE 2.
